Taipei Xinsheng Theater (台北新生戲院) - Spectral Codex
台北新生戲院

Built by Zhou Chen Yushu (周陳玉樹), the same entrepreneur behind Lesheng Theater and Cinema Street, this multi-use entertainment complex opened on December 31, 1956 with over 1,300 seats. It showed first-run Western films and later Hong Kong films. On January 19, 1966 a massive fire killed 31 people including firefighters. Zhou rebuilt it as Xinsheng Theater (新聲戲院), changing the second character for good luck. It opened in 1968 but was struck by fires again in 1988 and 1993, forcing demolition. The site sat empty until the late 1990s. The replacement tower Xingmoshi (星摩市) was completed in 2000 and is now occupied by Cash Box KTV (錢櫃中華新館).
