Designed by Ide Kaoru (井手薰) and completed in 1936, this impressive structure was originally the Taipei Assembly Hall (臺北公會堂). The Japanese surrender of Taiwan officially took place in this building on October 25th, 1945. It was renamed Zhongshan Hall in honor of Sun Yat-sen after the war. Nowadays it is preserved as a multi-functional venue for exhibitions and special events.
