Originally established as Yuanshan Sports Field (圓山運動場) in 1923. In August 1945 it was the site of the Maruyama Evacuation Camp, a temporary holding area for POWs awaiting repatriation at the end of the war. In 1989 a soccer stadium meeting international standards was completed on this site in a late period Chinese Renaissance style. It also regularly hosted concerts over the years but was closed for renovations in 2007. Since then it has been repurposed for commercial use and special events, and in the post-pandemic years a popular youth nightclub district emerged. The abandoned bleachers were converted for use as a community garden (社區園圃推廣中心) in the mid-2020s, a popular scene for photographers.
