Successor to the first chapel George Leslie Mackay built in Taiwan, on land donated by the village head of Wugukeng (五股坑) after Mackay and his student Giâm Chheng-hoâ (嚴清華) began preaching there in 1872. Despite obstruction from Qing troops based in Bangka (艋舺), the chapel was dedicated on March 2nd, 1873, before at least 150 people, according to Mackay’s diary, with Giâm as its first resident preacher. Abandoned under Japanese rule, the church was rebuilt by its members after 1945; the present building dates to 1973 and became a full congregation in 1983. The front entrance is adorned with artwork depicting Mackay.
