Home of the congregation George Leslie Mackay founded in Tamsui in 1872, the first Protestant church in northern Taiwan. The present red-brick Gothic Revival building, with buttresses, pinnacles, and a bell tower, was completed in 1933 to a design by Mackay’s son George William Mackay (偕叡廉), replacing a 1915 chapel on the same site beside the Hobe Mackay Clinic. Beside the entrance hangs the bell from that chapel, requisitioned during World War 2 as an air raid siren and cracked in a bombing raid before its return to the church.

I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
