The predecessor to this theater, Yoshino-tei (芳乃亭), was established in 1911; operations moved to this site in 1924 as Yoshino-kan (芳乃館). After the war it was renamed Meiduli Theater (美都麗戲院). In 1965 the original owners rebuilt the site as a seven-story cinema but ceased operations just before completion. Local Bangka native Zhang Mingjie (張明吉) took over and renamed it Guobin Theater (國賓大戲院); the original single-screen auditorium could seat approximately 1,600. The building was completely rebuilt around 2001. Now operating as a branch of Ambassador Theaters, run by Zhang’s son Zhang Zhongzhou (張中周). Sometimes referred to as the Guobin Cineplex (國賓影城).
