Originally established in the late Japanese colonial period as the Toufen Assembly Hall (頭份公會堂). After the war it was renamed Toufen Zhongshan Hall (頭份中山堂), and it was soon rented out for use as a theater. Initially it was known as Guomin Theater (國民戲院), but the business changed hands and around 1956 it became Yuandong Theater. It is generally remembered as screening Chinese language films. Likely demolished and replaced by one of the government buildings now on site.
