A Japanese colonial era shophouse on Yuanji Road (員集路) in Tianzhong, built around 1930 by Chen Jingsong (陳景崧), a physician who originally went to Japan to study law but switched to medicine after his father’s illness went untreated. He returned in 1929 as one of only two doctors in town, specializing in pediatrics and internal medicine, and was still seeing patients in his nineties. Chen treated the poor without charge and burned his ledger of unpaid bills each year. Out of business for many years now.
