World War 2 History in Taiwan

Taiwan had been under Japanese colonial rule for decades at the outbreak of open hostilities in World War 2 (第二次世界大戰), and it played an integral role in the invasion of numerous states across the region. Japanese military fortifications were extensive, as were engineering projects to support the war effort, and their remains can still be found scattered across the island. Only faint traces remain of more than a dozen camps for Allied POws while facilities related to special attack units (kamikaze aircraft and shinyo suicide boats) can still be found if you know where to look.
