:format(jpg)/taiwan/tainan/tainan-west-central/tainan-jisheng-sanatorium-1.jpg)
Constructed in 1924 to treat infectious diseases like bubonic plague and tuberculosis. In the post-war era it became a hospital for air force personnel (814空軍醫院). In 1983 it was abandoned as the air force hospital relocated to a larger plot of land elsewhere. The site was then used as an impound lot until 2009. In 2021 it was awarded heritage status. In an interesting twist, it was recently discovered the sanatorium was built on the site of Yonggu Golden Fortress (永固金城), a relic of the Qing dynasty era. As of 2025 the site is securely fenced off and awaiting restoration.
