Established in 1736 as one of many Mazu temples in what is now the Five Channels Cultural Zone (五條港文化園區). It was heavily damaged during the Tainan Air Raid of March 1945 and many relics were lost in the ensuing fire. In the post-war era it was reconstructed in 1947, adopting more of a northern palatial style, and again in 1970. There is an unusually large statue of Huye (虎爺) in the forecourt.
