The founding temple for the veneration of Emperor Yaowang (藥王大帝), a deity of medicine, established in 1685. It is regarded as one of the seven temples and eight shrines (七寺八廟) of historic Tainan. It was partly dismantled in 1969 during a road widening project and the current reinforced concrete structure was completed in 1990. There is some scholarly debate about the precise identity of the primary deity in this temple. The plaque reading Blessings and Longevity For My People (福壽我民) was inscribed by prefect (知府) Yang Tingli (楊廷理) in 1788.
