A Japanese-style timber customs office completed in 1926 beside the newly opened Tainan Canal (臺南運河), when the customs branch office (稅關安平支署) moved here from Anping, leaving a substation at the canal’s western end to inspect incoming cargo. The building retains much of its original appearance, including bamboo-and-mud walls clad in clapboard, a wooden service counter, and a brick and concrete air raid shelter in the front garden. The post-war customs service took over the building in 1945, and it now houses an office of the Chianan Branch of Kaohsiung Customs, although commercial vessels no longer use the canal.
