This iconic lakeside pavilion in Taichung Park (台中公園) was completed in 1908 to commemorate the opening of the main trunk railway line. Initially it was only open to members of the Japanese royal family and their entourage, but members of the public were allowed to visit from 1914 onward. In the post-war era it was renamed Zhongzheng Pavilion (中正亭) but the original name has since been restored. It is now open to the public but probably more interesting to view from across the pond.
