One of many historic relics scattered around Taichung Park (台中公園). This was a former watchtower located outside a Qing dynasty era residence in another part of what was then a newly-established settlement in 1889. It was relocated to the park in 1983 while the rest of the mansion was demolished. Much of it was rebuilt in the process, leading the ministry of culture to decline to designate it a heritage structure.
