Established in 1919 as Gakubu-dai (樂舞臺), a venue for opera, traditional performance, and concerts. It was funded by Taiwanese and mainly catered to a local audience, whereas Taichū-za (臺中座) was more for Japanese residents. In the post-war era that theater seemingly retained the same name only with a Mandarin Chinese reading. Later converted for use as a movie theater with a capacity of around 1,500. One of many theaters managed by Huang Bingxi (黃炳熙) in the 1980s. Demolished in 1990 and replaced by a parking lot next to the canal (柳川). Officially romanized as “Lo Wu Tai Theatre”.
