東星大樓

A 12-storey commercial-residential tower completed in 1984 on the corner of Bade Road and Hulin Street in Songshan. It collapsed during the 921 Earthquake in 1999, killing 87 people in what remained the worst single-building disaster in Taiwan until 2016. An investigation found serious deficiencies in the construction but the builder had been dissolved in 1987, leaving residents and dependents to wrangle with Taipei City Hall over compensation for over a decade. A replacement building of the same name was completed on the site in August 2009.
