One of Taipei’s major tourist night markets and its second oldest, running along Raohe Street west of Songshan Ciyou Temple in Songshan, Taipei. The district, formerly called Xikou (錫口), thrived in the 19th century as a port on the Keelung River, transshipping goods between Keelung, Yilan, and Taipei. Commerce faded as the river silted up and Raohe Street was sidelined by the widening of Bade Road. In 1987 the city established a tourist night market here to revive the area’s fortunes. Today it is a busy draw for visitors, lined with food stalls alongside vendors of clothing, shoes, and souvenirs.
