Zhongpu (中埔) - Spectral Codex

Zhongpu (中埔) is a rural township southeast of Chiayi City in Chiayi County, extending from the plains into the western foothills of the Alishan Range. Most residents live in villages near the city, while the hills beyond contain former mining sites including a hand-carved tunnel from the Japanese colonial era. The Wu Feng Temple here honors a controversial Qing merchant whose mythologized “sacrifice to end headhunting” was promoted as moral education under Japanese and KMT rule before Indigenous protests led to its removal from textbooks in 1989. A former granary near the township center has been converted into an agricultural innovation park.
