Dongxing Village Japanese General Temple (東興村將軍爺廟) - Spectral Codex

A hilltop shrine in Zhongpu, Chiayi, venerating an anonymous Japanese officer deified as Lord General (將軍爺). Local lore holds that he led a patrol through the area in the early Japanese colonial era to round up “bandits” (a colonial term for anti-Japanese resistance fighters), only to be ambushed and killed, his name lost as the original memorial stele erected on site weathered away. After farmers working the land experienced a series of setbacks a figure was carved and enshrined in a small temple to placate the troubled spirit. Depicted in a black military uniform with a peaked cap and a sword, the temple also features a pair of wooden geta set beneath the altar. No one has tied him to a documented figure, though armed resistance was common in these hills during the first years of Japanese rule.
