Lucao (鹿草) is a rural township on the Chianan Plain in Chiayi County, named for the deer that once grazed here before fleeing into the mountains as settlers arrived. Guifoshan, one of the ten stockades developed during the Zheng family era in the 1620s, later became the site of a World War 2 command bunker overseeing the nearby Ensui North Airfield.
