Yùlǐ (玉里), formerly Pushibao (璞石閣), is a small historic town in the central Huadong Valley of eastern Taiwan. Traditionally home to the Amis and Bunun people, it was settled by Han Chinese after the opening of the Batongguan Trail in 1875, and prospered throughout much of the 19th century as the primary transportation hub in the region. The Yuli Shinto Shrine (玉里社), restored by community volunteers, is the most exemplary Shinto shrine in eastern Taiwan, and a plate boundary monument demarcates the Eurasian and Philippine Sea tectonic plates on railway bridge repurposed as a scenic bike trail.
