A historic and important temple in central Yuli. According to legend it was founded on the site of the camp of Qing general Wu Guangliang (吳光亮) and his army, who were dispatched here to oversee the construction of the Batongguan Trail in 1875. Inside hangs a black lacquer plaque of stout camphor wood reading “protection of the land behind the mountains” (後山保障), written by Wu and presented in 1881, which Hualien County registered as an antiquity in 2013.
