Héngshān (橫山) is a rural Hakka township in the interior of Hsinchu County. Hakka settlers arrived in the early 19th century, initially producing camphor. The area developed into a logging and coal mining hub under Japanese rule, with over 5,000 workers residing here at its peak.
The township is traversed by the Neiwan Line (內灣線), completed in 1951 to transport timber. Hexing Station is the only remaining wooden station on the line, which terminates in Neiwan village, home to the famous Neiwan Old Street and Neiwan Theater. The ruins of Jianfeng Coal Mine can still be found in the surrounding hills.
