南河煤礦

A post-war coal mine beside the Xincheng Canal (新城圳) in Fuxing Village (福興村), Hengshan, licensed in 1958 to Xiao Mingzhe (蕭明哲) and partners and worked until its closure in 1977, yielding around 100,000 tonnes of coal. It shares a coal seam with Mafu Coal Mine to the north and Jianfeng Coal Mine to the south. The flat-roofed brick and concrete portal survives, but the tunnel behind it has collapsed. Riverbed works along the canal in 2015 destroyed the mine car track and its concrete footings.

I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
