Hsinchu Zhulian Temple (新竹竹蓮寺) - Spectral Codex

One of the three most famous temples in Hsinchu City alongside Chenghuang Temple and Changhe Temple. Zhulian Temple traces its origins to a small Guanyin shrine established around 1711 by Fujian pioneer Wang Shijie (王世傑) near the south gate of the former walled city. It was relocated to its present complex in 1781, when a second Guanyin image was brought back from Putuoshan in Zhejiang to join the original. Noted for woodcarvings by the Hsinchu master Cai Xinpao (蔡心匏) and a gilt plaque bestowed by the Guangxu Emperor, the building underwent an eight year heritage restoration completed in 2011.
