Xinhua Guanyin Temple (新化觀音亭) - Spectral Codex
Xinhua Guanyin Temple (新化觀音亭)

A Buddhist temple enshrining Guanyin (觀世音菩薩), originally known as the Damujian Erlinjie Guanyin Pavilion (大穆降二嶺街觀音亭). Temple records claim a founding date of 1735, though other sources place it at 1828. The temple was destroyed in an earthquake in 1862 and rebuilt from 1868, then demolished during the Japanese colonial era in 1936 to make way for a shrine to Prince Kitashirakawa. It was rebuilt after the war and renovated again in 1978. The forecourt features unusually large ceramic dioramas and guardian lion-elephant pairs flank the entrance.
