Completed in 1935, this red-brick market in Beidou was originally established as a temporary market in 1899. Built according to a square plan with four corner entrances and a central courtyard, the building was reputedly the most prosperous market in southern Changhua until commerce relocated to other parts of town in the post-war decades. A 2003 electrical fire destroyed the wooden roof framework, leaving only the red-brick shell, which the Ministry of Economic Affairs restored and reopened in 2004. The surviving complex was designated a historic building in 2008.
