Maxing Chen Residence

A traditional Minnan residence in the countryside of Xiushui, also known as Yiyuan Manor (益源大厝). Established around 1846 by the senior branch of the Chen family, it comprises three halls flanked by paired wings on a site of roughly one hectare, and a plaque over the entrance hall commemorates Chen Peisong (陳培松), who passed the provincial examination in 1858. It is renowned for its excellent state of preservation, the result of restoration between 1998 and 2004, and for its extraordinary fengshui. Although it is recognized as a national monument the site remains a private residence.
