Xinzhuang Guangfu Temple (新莊廣福宮) - Spectral Codex

Built around 1780 by Chaozhou Hakka migrants, this Sanshan Guowang temple was the center of the short-lived Cantonese community in Xinzhuang before bitter internecine feuds drove most of them away. The temple preserves a remarkable 1750 stele ordering the Tamsui Subprefecture to stop taxing the Hakka at eleven or twelve times the Hokkien rate, along with Cantonese-style stone lions and the largely uncoloured wooden ornamentation typical of Hakka village shrines. This temple is recognized as a national monument and was carefully restored in 2014.
