Established in the late Japanese colonial era as Muhō-gekijō (霧峰劇場). It was operational in the 1940s, hosting traditional opera and other performances, before focusing more on film in the 1950s and 1960s. It struggled through the 1980s but only closed for good in 1996. The theater was heavily damaged in the 921 Earthquake, when the entire front of the building tumbled into the street. It was encased in sheet metal and small shops now operate out of the former lobby. Some part of the original theater is likely preserved inside but it is not accessible to the public.
