A Japanese colonial era wooden dormitory built in 1928 along the Liuchuan Canal (柳川), originally housing for teachers at the nearby Taichung Normal School. The building served as the personal studio of Lin Chih-chu (林之助), widely regarded as the father of gouache painting (膠彩畫) in Taiwan, from his appointment at the school until he vacated in 2006. Registered as a historic building in 2007 and restored by National Taichung University of Education, it reopened as Lin Chih-chu Memorial Hall (林之助紀念館) in 2015.
