Sanzhi UFO Houses (三芝飛碟屋) - Spectral Codex

Sanzhi UFO Houses (三芝飛碟屋) were a cluster of modular holiday pods modelled on the Finnish Futuro house, built along the north coast of Taiwan by Hung Kuo Group (宏國集團). Construction began in 1978 as part of a planned resort catering to American military officers on R&R from East Asian postings, but the project was abandoned by 1980 after investment losses and a string of fatal accidents and worker suicides on site. Locals variously blamed the misfortunes on the bisecting of a dragon sculpture at the resort gates during road widening, or on a folk belief that the land was an old Dutch burial ground.

The half-finished pods were left to weather for nearly three decades, becoming one of the most photographed ruins in Taiwan. Demolition began on December 29th, 2008, and the last pods were cleared by 2010, despite an online petition to preserve one as a museum. Similar pod architecture survives at the nearby Wanli UFO Village.
