A curtain waterfall on the upper Keelung River (基隆河) in Pingxi, New Taipei, not far from Shifen Old Street. At roughly 20 meters in height and 40 meters in breadth it is the largest of its kind in Taiwan, and since the rock strata dip against the flow of the river, as they do at Niagara Falls, it is often called “Taiwan’s Niagara”. Private land once surrounded the falls and an unlicensed operator charged admission for years before the city designated the site a public park, opening it free of charge at the end of 2014.
