Lower Tamsui River Iron Bridge Pingtung Section (下淡水溪鐵橋屏東段) - Spectral Codex

Construction on this monumental iron railway bridge began in 1911 and completed in 1914. When it entered into service it was one of the longest bridges in East Asia with a span of 1,526 meters. After the war it was renamed the Gaoping Iron Bridge (高屏鐵橋). Due to the accumulation of damage from typhoons and other weathering the Pratt iron trusses were replaced in 1964, while maintaining the original bridge piers. It was decommissioned in 1992 and declared a heritage structure in 1997. In the late 2000s a series of typhoons destroyed much of the central part of the old bridge, leaving the two sides disconnected to this day. Both ends of the bridge are parks open to the public.
