A historic sanheyuan residence in rural Nantun built in 1916 by Huang Qingjiang (黃清江, 1891–1936), a local educator who served as Nantun Village Chief from 1923 to 1931. A front pavilion (軒亭) was added in 1927, featuring paintings by the Guo brothers of Lukang. In September 2011 it was officially designated a heritage site, but mere weeks later contractors deliberately demolished the building with excavators. The incident shocked cultural and political circles, prompting Taichung’s city government to invest millions in reconstruction. In an unusual turn of events, it was later de-listed as a heritage site and as of the late 2010s it remains idle, closed to the public.
