Constructed sometime between 1898 to 1906, this residence was allocated to the administrator of Tainan-chō (臺南廳), an intermediary Japanese colonial division that preceded the introduction of prefectures in 1920. Afterwards it served as the official residence of the Minister of the Interior. In the post-war period it was again the residence of high-ranking government officials. It was restored in 2016 and now operates as Xizhuwei Hills Cultural and Creative Park (西竹圍之丘文創園區).
