The Republic of China Army laid out its first post-war airfield here in Lingya District in the late 1950s, a short landing strip for light aircraft on open ground immediately north of the Japanese colonial era warehouse compound at Wukuaicuo (五塊厝) later known as Weiwuying (衛武營). It preceded Longgang Airfield in Taoyuan, and the site was later cleared for what is now Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital (國軍高雄總醫院).
