Completed in 1997 by the Tuntex Group (東帝士集團) beside Kaohsiung Harbour, this 378-meter skyscraper in Lingya, Kaohsiung, was the tallest building in Taiwan until Taipei 101 overtook it in 2004. Its two wings merge above the 35th floor in a form meant to evoke the character gao (高) in Kaohsiung. Its department store closed in 2002, and the hotel on its upper floors passed through several operators amid the collapse of the Tuntex Group before shutting in 2019, leaving a tower of offices and residential units with a reputation for being dilapidated in parts. Sea King Group (海霸王集團) bought the former hotel floors in 2019, and in 2026 the press reported a Le Méridien would open there by the end of the year.
