Fuli was a major producer of tobacco in the 1970s and 1980s, so it is fitting that a tobacco market was located on the north side of town just off Zhongshan Road (中山路). Following Taiwan’s accession to the WTO tobacco cultivation ceased and this facility was eventually abandoned. After a period of neglect it was lightly converted for use as Fuli Township Rice Inspection Station (富里鄉稻米檢驗站) in 2017. Media reports typically describe this as the former Fuli Tobacco Factory (富里菸廠) but the building closely matches the design of a market building in Ji’an.
