An old brick kiln chimney in the fields of eastern Erlin.
A mysterious obelisk appears in the long fields of eastern Erlin, Changhua. This is all that remains of a brick and tile kiln built by the congregation of the nearby Yuandou Presbyterian Church (台灣基督長老教會原斗教會) to supply material for a new chapel building completed in 1954. Following the completion of the church this kiln continued to operate for a period of time but eventually closed. After a period of abandonment the body of the kiln was destroyed but, lacking the funds or equipment to safely demolish the chimney, it was left standing.
Holes in the chimney provide a nesting site for birds.

This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there).
