Twin folk shrines on the outskirts of Gangkou Village (港口村) in coastal Dongshi. The larger Wushenye Temple (武聖爺廟) sits beside the smaller Zhuniangniang Temple (豬母娘娘廟), which venerates a deified sow known as Lady Blackskin (黑皮夫人). According to local legend, during the Qing dynasty a pregnant sow escaped her pen to forage in a nearby sweet potato field; the farmer killed her with a hoe, and her owner, a talisman writer, retaliated by cursing the farmer with the sow’s severed head. Both men died, and the sow’s ghost obtained a black banner (烏令旗) from the King of Hell permitting her to haunt the village. Only after Mazu intervened did the sow agree to cease her haunting in exchange for a shrine, and Yuhuang Dadi (玉皇大帝), the Jade Emperor, bestowed upon her the title Lady Blackskin. Her spirit is still venerated at this location today.
