Reputedly the first Han Chinese temple built in what is now known as Chiayi City, founded in 1689 according to the Zhuluo County Gazetteer (諸羅縣志). Enshrines the Shuangzhong Yuanshuai (雙忠元帥), the Tang dynasty loyalists Zhang Xun (張巡) and Xu Yuan (許遠). Destroyed during the Kōminka movement (皇民化運動) in 1939 and rebuilt from 1947 to 1949, the temple features polished terrazzo (磨石子) dragon columns by craftsman Luo Lei (羅雷), a rarity among Taiwanese temples where stone-carved columns are the norm.
