A well sunk by representatives of the Dutch East India Company sometime between 1657 and 1661. It was in continuous use until the introduction of drinking water by the Japanese in the early 20th century. The common name of the well is derived from ang-mo, a Hokkien reference to the red-haired appearance of some of the Dutch.
