A small Buddhist temple in central Chiayi occupying a wooden residence built for the Rinzai Myōshinji sect (臨濟宗妙心寺派). The building was completed in 1927, with the mission itself formally established two years later. The compound was leased and renamed Cijue Temple (慈覺寺) in 1945 by Tang Qixi (唐啟西), with the land formally transferred in 1961. The main hall retains its tatami flooring and houses an unusual triad of Guanyin, Kṣitigarbha (地藏王菩薩), and Zhusheng Niangniang (註生娘娘), the Goddess of Childbirth.
