Chiayi Confucian Temple (嘉義孔子廟) - Spectral Codex

Chiayi Confucian Temple was completed in 1964 within Chiayi Park (嘉義公園), replacing an earlier temple (文廟) first built in 1706 and destroyed in the 1906 Meishan earthquake. In 1982, Chiayi Mayor Xu Shixian (許世賢) became the first woman in Taiwan to serve as chief officiant at a Confucian ceremony. The temple was damaged in the 921 Earthquake and later suffered an arson attack in 2008 that destroyed Minglun Hall and its collection of ceremonial artifacts.
