Built around 1926 as the Chaozhou Village Office (潮州庄役場), this single-storey hybrid Japanese-Western public building served as the local administrative seat and, after 1936, the upgraded Chaozhou Township Office (潮州街役場). In the post-war era it was leased to the postal service and operated as Chaozhou Post Office (潮州郵局) for nearly six decades. When the post office relocated in 2006 the building was slated for demolition, but a community preservation campaign led by legislator Pan Meng-an (潘孟安) intervened in time, and it was designated a historic building later that year. Following a full restoration the site reopened in December 2011 as the Pingtung Story House (屏東戲曲故事館), a small municipal museum dedicated to traditional Taiwanese opera.
