Wansheng Temple (萬聖宮) is a disused temple in a remote part of Annan, Tainan. The eight-fold architecture is unusual and there is a giant statue of Jigong (濟公), the Drunken Monk, on top of the building. For this reason it is also known as Jigong Temple (濟公廟). Not much seems to be known about its history but it is not a lively place. Only the caretaker lives here, and visitors are typically not welcome. Beware of dogs, should you venture onto the property!
An unusual sight across the aquaculture ponds of coastal Tainan.
The Drunken Monk, decanter and fan in hand, is easily recognizable.
The temple is in a remote and desolate area of Tainan.
I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
