An obscure monument dated March 1990 at the former site of the Annan Meat Market (安南肉品市場), which opened in 1979 as one of Taiwan’s first modern electrified slaughterhouses. The facility was established on land purchased from Taiwan Sugar Corporation in the Heshunliao (和順寮) area, replacing an older market on Fengchia Road (逢甲路) in the city center that had been in operation since 1921. Although there is no sign of the slaughterhouse anymore this small monument can still be found along a barren stretch of highway behind chain link fencing.
