A civilian airfield built in early 1937 and opened that June, originally known as Tainan Airfield (臺南飛行場) and later distinguished as Tainan North Airfield (臺南北飛行場) to set it apart from the navy airfield that became today’s Tainan Airport. The Japanese military gradually took it over during World War 2 and it was known to Allied forces as Eikosho (Tainan) Airport and Eiko Airfield. In the post-war era it was completely dismantled; nowadays the grounds are occupied by Tainan University of Technology. The only related institution still extant is the Yongkang Weather Station (永康氣象站), which opened in 1940 as a branch of the Tainan Weather Observatory (臺南測候所台南飛行場出張所) to provide aviation forecasts. No trace of the original weather station can be seen today, but its location is a reminder of the airfield that once existed in this part of suburan Tainan.
